50 Years of Mr Benn with David McKee

Just the name ‘Mr Benn’ conjures strong memories of childhood adventures through the changing room door of the fancy dress shop on Festive Rd.

These happy memories have been passed on and the magic of Mr Benn is as vivid today as it was when the first books were published in 1967, followed shortly after by the iconic television series with its not-to-be-forgotten theme tune.We are thrilled to celebrate alongside inventor and author David McKee in celebrating fifty years of this wonderful film and picture book creation.

The second of our two summer exhibition will offer visitors to the gallery a feast of original artwork to see, sketches along with finished book illustrations and never-seen-before animation cels from the original films, hidden away in the studios for half a century and now released for the very first time. Not to be missed – one never knows what adventures will await through the gallery door!
