Anthony Browne and 30 years of Willy the Wimp
Anthony Browne needs little introduction as one of Britain’s leading book illustrators. With over forty books to his name as both author and illustrator he has a worldwide reputation, and his formidable talent, his versatility, and his ability to appeal to many age groups has established him as a universally popular favourite.

His work has brought him an impressive and almost unrivalled number of awards, including the Kate Greenaway Medal (twice), the Emil/Kurt Maschler Award (three times), two Honorary Doctorates from universities, New York Times Best Illustrated Book, a period as Artist in Residence at the Tate Gallery, and as the UK’s Children’s Laureate in 1989. He is also the first British illustrator to be awarded the highest international honour, the Hans Christian Andersen Medal, for services to children’s literature.

Anthony Browne’s immensely popular Willy series began with the publication by Julia MacRae Books in 1984 of Willy the Wimp, and we are proud to present in conjunction with his publisher Walker Books the new Willy title, Willy’s Stories, a companion to his earlier book Willy’s Pictures. This imaginative and thought-provoking new book is bound to attract wide interest and media attention.

Illustrationcupboard Gallery is very proud to celebrate publication of Willy’s Stories with a stunning and extensive exhibition of Anthony Browne’s original artwork. There will be a limited number of original items for sale, offering art collectors a unique opportunity to acquire work by a true master, who rarely offers his work for sale.
