Maurice Sendak - Where The Wild Things Are
Chromolithographs - signed limited edition (1971)
Where The Wild Things Are – editioned Lithographs imprinted by Harper and Row 1971. This set of four lithographs originally formed part of the limited edition box set published by Harper & Row in association with Maurice Sendak in 1971.
Within the beautiful packaged box there were 19 lithographs each taken from a selection of Maurice Sendak's most well known books. These included In the Night Kitchen, Higglety Pigglety Pop and A Kiss for Little Bear and Where the Wild Things Are amongst others. The four double page spreads taken from Where The Wild Things Are are produced in full colour on fine art quality paper and originated from Sendak's artwork, now in the permanent collection at the Rosenbach Museum, Philadelphia. These chromolithographs now represent the best extant examples of this work.
There were originally 1000 boxed sets produced, originally allocated for distribution amongst friends and colleagues. They were produced as fine art editions in a presentation box, and not as a specifically commercial venture. Now and over forty years on these lithographs have now become scarce and very collectable.
